Home Power? Farm Power? Village Power and even Factory Power! Finally, piston driven steam engines are back in production. Oil prices have forced the world to get more power out of each drop of water. While turbines under 500hp are nice, they inherently eat a lot of steam. Engineers are used to designing around 50, 70 and even more lbs/kw with back-pressure turbines. But those days are numbered. Even the simplest of piston engines can get 35 lbs/kw or better. And all without expensive superheated and clean steam. The main issue was always availability. Now, 20hp engines are CNC mass produced and fully enclosed for long life. 150hp engines are high speed and enclosed and are no larger than a comparable i.c. engine. Of course, if you want a traditional look, like this feller here, it will always be available! Complete with permanent bearings and adjustable crosshead, a very long life is assured and makes this type of engine a perfect match for an ECO-HOTEL. These units are even available for lease.
